Half a century ago, a young, aspiring Cockney comic stepped onto the stage at the Victoria Palace Theatre to audition for New Faces. After his performance, the show's producer, Les Cocks, called him over and said "I liked your act, son. Can you do March the 9th?" That moment marked the beginning of an extraordinary journey that would shape British comedy for decades to come.
